Born and raised in North Carolina by a single mother, Grant grew up in a family that had difficulties making ends meet. Recognizing that education was the best escape from poverty, Grant went on to graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill for both undergraduate and medical school. After 9/11, Grant answered the call to serve our nation as a military doctor, including three tours in the Middle East. Upon retiring from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel, he returned to the private practice of medicine and became active in the community serving his fellow veterans. Grant currently serves as Vice Chairman of the N.C. State Board of Community Colleges and is frequently consulted by the General Assembly during the drafting of legislation related to healthcare and veterans’ issues. Grant and his family are once again answering the call to serve by running for election to represent the people of House District 83.
