Born and raised in North Carolina by a single mother, Grant Campbell learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and personal responsibility at an early age. His family sometimes struggled to make ends meet, and Grant came to understand that education offered the surest path to a better future. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Dean’s List student and earned his undergraduate degree.

While at Carolina, Grant discovered his calling in medicine and met his wife, Anita. He later earned his medical degree from UNC, receiving multiple awards for academic excellence and leadership and being elected student body president by his classmates. Grant and Anita have two adult children.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Grant answered the call to serve his country as a physician in the United States Army. He completed three tours in the Middle East, including one with U.S. Special Forces, and ultimately retired from military service as a lieutenant colonel. After returning home, Grant resumed the private practice of medicine while remaining actively involved in serving fellow veterans and helping low-income patients obtain the medical care they need.
